i own this great little compressor. i've had it for a couple of years now and am very, very happy with it.
i own a 1971 epiphone dreadnought with an L.R. Baggs I-Beam pickup installed and ALWAYS had trouble with feeding back from too much low end. i do love this guitar and found ways to make it managable on our own systems, but whenever i would travel or play on a new sound system i would have constant problems.
sometimes i had no choice but to use one of those unfortunate sound hole covers (Image 1 below), which is a quick fix but a travesty in my opinion.
i finally started doing research on compressors. it seemed to be the answer to my problems. for the purposes of playing a lot of live, rhythm guitar it was and is perfect. the use is easy and the front panel is straightforward for a compressor (Image 2).
the presets in the manual are perfect for what i need. there are 15 separate default settings on this little wonder for Stereo signals (it is a 2-channel compressor), fretted instruments, keyboard instruments, vocals, percussion and effects processing. it is fantastic. i generally go between 2 of the settings on the Fretted Instrument Defaults because it sounds so great with my Epiphone and my Martin. there is of course also a manual setting where you can adjust all of the parameters to suit your needs (though i and other users reccomend the default factory settings).
this compressor is also great for recording. i simply can't find a use that it isn't good for. it has tons of potential that i haven't even realized yet.
and, at a moderate price the BlueMax is great for a budget conscious player. it retails for just under $200, but you can pick it up new on ebay for under $150, or at musiciansfriend.com for the same price.
for more information just email me, or, better yet, you can read all of the specs at the presonus.com website. even the manual to the BlueMax (with fuller descriptions of all those factory presets i was raving about) right HERE
below i'll put diagrams of the front panel (Image 3) and the back panel (Image 4).
